ONE PIECE Laminated Card Collection (2001) Review – Bounties Printed on the Board, Not the Cards

Quick Verdict

A five-card laminated set from the second One Piece film (2001). The shading is done in solid black — the colours themselves are all there — every card carries a khaki back with an English one-liner, and the cards mount on a board that folds into a triangular stand.

The board carries the crew’s names and bounties, from ฿30,000,000 for Luffy down to ฿5,000,000 for Usopp. Those numbers are the film’s own: they are not the figures the manga later made official.

What is this set?

It comes from the second One Piece film (2001), and the lineup is the whole crew as it stood that year — Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji, five members and nobody else. Each card measures about 95 × 65 mm and is laminated.

The cards sit in windows on a dark brown board. Fold the board along its centre seam and it becomes a triangular stand, so the set stands on a shelf by itself.

What do the fronts look like?

At first glance it looks like a black-and-white set. It is not. The colour is fully there: skin tones, Luffy’s red vest, Sanji’s blue suit. What changes is the shading. Instead of soft gradients, the shadows are laid in as solid black masses, and every card sits on a solid black background.

The remaining colour reads stronger for it. The yellow of Luffy’s straw hat and the red of his sash. The green of Zoro’s hair against pale metallic swords. The orange of Nami’s hair and the blue of her shoulder tattoo. The gold of Usopp’s goggles.

Out of their board, laid in a row, the five look like a set of gig flyers rather than trading cards. The black fields are fully glossy, so the fronts pick up reflections — and fingerprints — the moment you handle them.

What is printed on the backs?

Every back follows the same khaki template: the “From TV animation ONE PIECE” logo, the member’s role in English, a line-art portrait, one English sentence, and the Going Merry “LUFFY PIRATES” emblem over the copyright line. The sentences are worth reading in full:

Luffy — CAPTAIN: “The captain of the Luffy Pirates.”

Zoro — SWORDSMAN: “A swordsman skillful with three swords.”

Nami — NAVIGATOR: “A navigator who supports the voyages of the Luffy Pirates.”

Usopp — SNIPER: “A master of lies and slingshot.”

Sanji — COOK: “An excellent cook with a soft spot for women.”

It is a character introduction page shrunk to card size, and it makes the backs as collectible as the fronts.

Sanji lami card front, hand reaching toward the viewer Sanji card back, COOK, khaki design

Nami lami card front, pointing up with Log Pose on her wrist Nami card back, NAVIGATOR, khaki design

Usopp lami card front, goggles on his head Usopp card back, SNIPER, khaki design

Why are the bounties printed on the board?

The board does the labelling. Each window sits above the member’s name and bounty, printed directly on the board:

MONKEY D. LUFFY — ฿30,000,000

RORONOA ZORO — ฿20,000,000

SANJI — ฿15,000,000

NAMI — ฿10,000,000

USOPP — ฿5,000,000

Empty, the windows show torn-paper panels with the same line-art portraits and one-liners as the card backs. Slide a card in and the panel disappears, leaving the name and bounty visible under the artwork.

The numbers themselves are a period piece. In the manga, Zoro’s first bounty was ฿60,000,000, and Sanji, Nami and Usopp had no bounties at all in 2001. This board simply gives everyone a price, in a neat descending row.

Even the back of the board is finished rather than blank: the “Laminated Card Collection” title, the five members’ names, a large white Going Merry emblem in the middle, and the Movic logo with the ¥600 price printed in the corner.
